Ryan R. Erickson

Ryan Erickson began his military career in 1995 joining the U.S. Army as an 11B Infantryman with the 1/75 Ranger Battalion. Upon completion of his first tour he was assigned to the Washington State National Guard and in 1999 changed course to join the U.S. Coast Guard. His time in the USCG has included a tour in Kodiak, AK as an Avionics Technician and HC-130 Navigator, and a tour in Elizabeth City, NC as a plank-owner of the C-130J program. In 2004 he was accepted to Officer Candidate School; on graduation, he was stationed at Sector Seattle, Washington. LTJG Erickson is currently the supervisor of their Vessel Board and Search Team and a Command Duty Officer in the Joint Harbor Operations Command.

John Massingill

John has a double connection to the Coast Guard. As a mustang member of the Coast Guard Reserve, John currently serves in an intelligence billet. He is also a civilian employee, serving at Sector Hampton Roads as a search & rescue specialist and multi-mission controller.

Michael M. McGrath

Michael is a long-time member of the Coast Guard family. He is currently a freelance consultant and change agent. His last gig was with a a major contractor as senior advisor to the Coast Guard's intelligence technology program. A lieutenant commander in the Coast Guard Reserve, Michael has served as an organizational performance consultant for Coast Guard Atlantic Area. He has a special interest in the safety -- or lack of safety -- in commercial & military hard-hat diving. Michael earned an MBA from Averett University, and serves as an adjunct faculty member at National Graduate School. He lives with his family in the hills of western Virginia.

Peter A. Stinson

Peter has been associated with the United States Coast Guard since April Fools Day 1980 when he enlisted in the Coast Guard Reserve. Not realizing the extent of this prank, he has been with the Coast Guard ever since. Currently, he is a civil servant serving as an organizational performance consultant, providing counsel and services to leaders in organizational leadership & management, conflict management, and change management, for the Atlantic Area in Portsmouth, VA. Peter has served a variety of units throughout the Coast Guard including a port security unit as the operations officer and a multi-mission small boat station as the executive petty officer. Peter's blogging includes a diverse range of topics. For An Unofficial Coast Guard Blog, his focus is on change, leadership, and performance. Peter publishes several other blogs including Tidewater Musings and A School to Call Home. Peter is a graduate of the Coast Guard Chief Petty Officer Academy, the Naval War College, and Trinity College.

John Willis

John is a retired Coast Guard Senior Chief Petty Officer. He maintains the Coast Guard News website, for which he, supported by his ever faithful Siberian Huskie “Liberty,” scours the internet to provide all the news about the nation's oldest continuous sea going service.


Daren Lewis

Daren is an information technology specialist with a background in public relations and design. A member of the Coast Guard Auxiliary, Daren is active in surface operations and public education in the Portland, OR, area; he also does IT work for the Auxiliary National Staff. Daren lives with his family in Portland and works for MessageLabs, a UK based company that provides messaging security services to businesses.
